Vision 

The Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce is

a leader in improving the economic vitality and

quality of life in Lynn, Lynnfield, Nahant, and Swampscott.

Mission

It is the mission of the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce to work with the

local business community to provide member programs, community

programs, and public advocacy to improve the economic vitality and

overall quality of life in Lynn, Lynnfield, Nahant and Swampscott. The LACC

strives to make Lynn, Lynnfield, Nahant and Swampscott a

better place to live, to work, and to do business.

 The Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce looks

to achieve our vision and fulfill our mission by focusing

on several organizational objectives.

 Objective 1:  Membership Development

The service, retention and attraction of members is a primary objective of the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce.

 

A. New Member Development: 

Þ  Plan, develop, and execute annual "new member" campaign

Þ  Maintain dedicated sales staff or contracted arrangement with a sales professional or

      sales organization to recruit new members

Þ  Update new member information kits

Þ  Develop new brochure describing the features and benefits of chamber membership

Þ  Provide incentives for new members to participate in programs

Þ  Target high-growth businesses in internet related fields including e-commerce

Þ  Target home-based businesses

Þ  Target minority businesses

Þ  Survey non-member businesses

Þ  Target and recruit non-member, lead businesses in Lynnfield, Nahant and

      Swampscott

 

B. Member Retention:

 Þ    Develop and publish annual Membership Directory and Community Guide

Þ     Develop and publish LACC Business Review ten times annually

Þ      Develop and maintain an organization website containing a listing of all members

Þ      Publish and present an annual Year In Review

Þ      Organize and deliver an excellent array of member programs and services to help

        members promote and/or improve their businesses

Þ    Respond to all member requests in an effective, professional and timely manner

Þ    Advocate on behalf of individual members and the entire business community when

       necessary

Þ   Provide incentives for members to participate in programs

Þ   Develop email database for meeting notices, alerts, etc.

Þ   Survey LACC membership

 

Objective 2:  Member Programs & Services

The Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce will develop and offer programs and services that benefit the members of the organization. Efforts will focus on direct business assistance programs, educational and informational programs, opportunities to promote local business and business relationships, negotiated members-only discounts from vendors and members, and business referral services.

 

Þ   Provide small business counseling and needs-based referral services

Þ   Conduct an annual meeting for members which also selves as a social gathering

       and networking event

Þ   Host an annual golf outing and barbecue for chamber members and guests

Þ   Plan and present the chamber "Breakfast Club" series of topical speakers

Þ   Host "Business After Hours" networking events for members

Þ   Plan, organize, and present an annual "Business Expo"

Þ   Organize the annual Holiday Decorating Contest and other holiday programs

Þ   Publish chamber publications: Membership Directory; LACC Review; website

Þ   Promote the chamber as an information resource for members and the community

Þ   Refer only chamber members when responding to public inquiries regarding goods

       and services

Þ   Develop and promote member-to-member discounts

Þ   Offer a selection of members-only group discount health insurance programs

Þ   Offer a selection of members-only discounts on telecommunications services

       including long distance service, cellular phone service, and internet service

Þ   Offer negotiated members-only discounts on additional goods and services

Þ   Provide use of chamber boardroom for meetings

Þ   Organize additional social events/ fundraisers such as comedy nights, etc.

Þ   Organize more informational seminars

Þ   Organize more networking functions (without the MNBA)

Þ   Organize events at more and different venues

 

Objective 3:  Business & Economic Development
The Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce is a key business retention and business development resource in the Lynn Area.

 

 Þ   Develop and provide chamber member programs, services, advocacy, and

     resources.

Þ   Maintain a current business listing of all chamber members and non-members

     In Lynn, Lynnfield, Swampscott, and Nahant

Þ   Maintain current information resources related to census, demographics,

     housing characteristics, labor market, and local, state and federal economic

     statistics

Þ   Provide free business consultations for all chamber members

Þ   Provide free business consultations for all prospective new businesses

Þ   Direct chamber members and prospective new businesses to appropriate, available

     resources

Þ   Develop effective working relationships with other local, state, and federal

     business retention and business development organizations, including: Lynn

Þ   Department of Economic & Community Development; Lynn EDIC; Lynn

     Small Business Assistance Center; Lynn Business Partnership; Lynn Leadership

     Council; Union Street Corridor CDC; MetroNorth Business Alliance; Essex

     National Heritage Commission; Lynn Housing Authority; Lynn Museum; North of

     Boston convention & Visitor's Bureau; MA Department of Economic Development;

     MA Office of Business Development; MA Economic Assistance Coordinating

     Council; MA Industrial Finance Agency; US Small Business Administration; SEA

     Service Corps of Retired Executives; Salem State College Small Business

     Assistance Center; Associated Industries of Massachusetts; and others

Þ   Support business retention and development efforts of the above-mentioned

     organizations

Þ   Develop effective working relationship with local, regional, state, and federal

     elected and appointed government officials

Þ   Organize and promote chamber committees working on "pro-business"

     development agenda items

Þ   Provide advocacy for "pro-business" development agenda items

Þ   Promote the Lynn Area as an excellent place to start and develop a business

Þ   Create Lynn Cyber District Development Council

Þ   Recruit more e-commerce businesses to the Lynn Area

 
Objective 4:  Legislative Affairs / Advocacy 

The Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce serves as the "voice of the business community". The chamber's board of directors, committee members, and staff will monitor, research, analyze, present, and recommend action on legislative issues and other issues as they develop and as they impact the Lynn Area business community.

 

Þ   Serve as the clearinghouse for information regarding local, state, and federal

     legislative and regulatory issues effecting businesses

Þ     Communicate with members on important legislative or regulatory issues

Þ   Maintain excellent communications and working relationships with elected and

       appointed government officials

Þ      Organize meetings with appropriate elected and appointed government officials

Þ      Develop business and public support for "pro-business " legislative and regulatory        issues

Þ      Monitor, research, review, and advocate for the legislative and government-related

     business issues developed by the chamber's board of directors and committees

Þ   Provide opportunities for chamber members to meet and address elected and

     appointed government officials

Þ   Maintain a leadership position in the MetroNorth Business Alliance and address four

     issues from a regional perspective: transportation; seaport development;

     brownfields; and workforce development

Þ      Provide individual business advocacy as needed

Þ      Develop excellent working relationship with local elected officials

 

Objective 5:  Education and Workforce Development
The Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce is committed to improving education andworkforce development and improving the Lynn Area labor market.

 

Þ    Serve on the newly formed Southern Essex Regional Employment Board

Þ    Serve on the Greater Lynn School-To-Work Partnership Council

Þ     Partner with Junior Achievement to conduct over 30 JA classes in local grammar   schools

 Þ    Serve on US Congressman John Tierney's Education and Workforce Development     Task Force

Þ    Serve on Lynn's Adult Basic Literacy Task Force

Þ    Assist the Lynn Business Education Foundation

Þ     Assist employment training service providers

Þ    Develop youth summer job readiness program with the Lynn Police Department, Community Police Division

Þ  Develop and maintain strong working relationships with area post-secondary    schools

Þ   Identify and communicate the availability of worker training resources for the local business community

Þ    Maintain current statistics on the Lynn labor market

  

Objective 6:  Communications / Marketing / Image

The Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce will establish an increased awareness, acceptance and support for its vision, mission, objectives, activities, programs and strategies among its membership, community and business leaders, governmental officials, educators, the media and others.

 

Þ    Develop, publish and distribute 1999 Membership Directory and Community  Resource Guide

Þ    Publish LACC Business Review ten times annually

Þ    Develop and maintain the chamber's website: www.lynnchamber.com

Þ    Maintain LACC page at Shore.net's community page website

Þ    Develop announcements, registration forms, and additional information to be mailed   to all chamber members regarding chamber events and service offerings

Þ    Develop and submit press releases to announce chamber events, activities,

     programs, and initiatives

Þ   Develop and execute advertising and marketing strategies for chamber programs

Þ   Invite local media to cover chamber events and press conferences

Þ   Develop a new brochure describing the features and benefits of chamber

     membership

Þ   Consult with communications specialist for certain projects

Þ   Work with the business community and public officials to create positive publicity

     for the Lynn Area

Þ   Promote the positive aspects of the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce with all

     media

Þ   Develop marketing campaign aimed to attract non-members in Lynn. Lynnfield-

     Nahant, and Swampscott

Þ   Develop marketing strategy to promote the relevance of the LACC including features

     and benefits

Þ   Organize testimonials from satisfied chamber members

Þ   Track website hits

Þ   Survey non-members, members, and residents

  

Objective 7:  Organizational Development

The Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to maintaining a strong organization to serve and represent the Lynn Area business community. The chamber is committed to credible management and responsible leadership.

 

Þ   Develop and monitor appropriate operating budget

Þ   Maintain a professional staff that earns competitive salaries and benefits

Þ  Maintain office location, equipment, computers, furniture and other resources

    necessary for the operation of the chamber

Þ  Organize and support chamber working committees

Þ    Continue participation in external programs, functions, and committees when it is   appropriate

Þ    Update and revise the 1999-2000 Strategic Workplan as necessary

Þ    Study opportunities for strategic geographical growth and expansion

Þ    Recruit more business leaders from Lynnfield, Nahant, and Swampscott

Þ    Recruit more ethnically diverse board members

Þ    Improve participation of board members, more responsibilities. more involvement
